- David Demone was elected President of S.I.T. for the year 2011-2012 at the Annual Technical Congress held in Montreal, Canada.
- Applications for Technical Papers and Posters for the S.I.T. Technical Conference to be held in Auckland, New Zealand, from May 6 to May 9, 2012, are now being accepted by Program Chairman
.
- Dr. Mike Inkson from Sugar Knowledge International Ltd [SKIL] received the 2011 Crystal Award.
- The Meade Award for the 2010 Technical Congress was presented to Ahmed Vawda and G.N. Kassim both from Savola Sugar Middle East, Cairo, Egypt, for the paper "A Comparative Evaluation of Fluidised Bed and Multiple Hearth Kilns for Activated Carbon".
- The Frank Chapman Memorial Award for the 2010 Technical Congress was presented to Dr. Luis San Miguel Bento for the best poster "Water and Sucrose Crystallization".
- An Honorary Life Time Certificate was presented to Dr. Robert Falgout at the 2011 Technical Congress for his long standing contribution to education and training for the sugar refining industry in organizing the Annual Cane Sugar Refiners Institute at Nicholls State University, Louisiana, USA.
- The fall Executive Committee meeting will be held in Europe at a date to be determined.
- The next Board of Directors meeting will be held in Auckland, New Zealand, on May 6, 2012, at 3:30 PM.
